The thrill of uncovering the best rookies of the season is one thing, but being able to follow their career and turn them in for potentially thousands of dollars in reward points? Now we’re really talking. Fanatics’ latest redemption program is an exciting initiative that puts the power in your hands, tying the value of the season’s best cards with real-world performance.
How does Bowman Red Rookie Redemption work, and is it worth the investment? Find out with this Giant Sports Cards guide.
What is Red Rookie Redemption?
This program debuts in 2025 Bowman, introducing a modern twist on their classic baseball hobby box lineup. The core idea? To tie the value of special short print rookie cards to each player’s individual long-term performance, rewarding the most patient collectors with massive redemptions.
Certain 2025 Bowman baseball boxes will feature short print rookie cards with ‘RC’ logos in red, making them eligible for the Bowman Red Rookie Redemption program. If you pull one of these cards, you’ll have two options:
- If you own a card eligible for the program, and that player wins Rookie of the Year, you can redeem that card for $100 immediately after they win ROY through your Fanatics Collect account.
- Or you can choose to play the long game and hold onto your card for even better prizes down the line, should you believe the player will go on to accomplish greatness in their career!
Let’s break those rewards down:
Achievement |
Redemption Value (in Fanatics FanCash terms) |
Rookie of the Year |
$100 |
MVP/Cy Young |
$300 |
MVP/Cy Young (2x) |
$500 |
MVP/Cy Young (3x) |
$700 |
Hall of Fame Induction |
$1000 |
While you can’t redeem cards from this program in your local hobby shop, like the Topps MVP Buyback, rest assured that most local card shops will still purchase these cards from customers for a high percentage of comps. Giant Sports Cards will definitely be buying these cards, so if you’re local to the metro-Atlanta area, make sure to bring them in for a strong offer on your cards!
Why Bowman Red Rookie Redemption Matters
This program is going to benefit more than just the buyers who pull RCs. Let’s take a look at the broader impact of Red Rookie Redemption on sports trading cards:
-
Performance-Based Collecting: Player performances have always impacted sports card prices, but this program makes it overt, clear, and predictable. This is great for collectors who don’t have the time to track pricing trends and online discussions for new sports card releases. With the Red Rookie Redemption program, all you need to do is focus on the one player you think will win it all.
-
Long-Term Value: Bowman Red Rookie Redemption could solve a problem that has long plagued collectors: the question of long-term value. Most new cards end up being worthless due to buyers losing interest or prices falling off.
This program meaningfully incentivizes long-term engagement with new releases, encouraging players to track, discuss, and trade their cards from the get-go. It also makes investing in upcoming sports card releases a safer bet, since you’re looking at nearly guaranteed rewards for certain players in the long term.
- Card Preservation: The best part of redeeming your card is that you get to eat your cake and have it too. With Bowman Red Rookie Redemption, redeeming a card gives you a virtual trophy replica of it in your Fanatics Collect account, and you can keep the actual physical piece with you to display or sell later on. It’s the best of both worlds.
What Can You Use FanCash On?
It’s worth pointing out that these RCs can only be redeemed in exchange for FanCash, not actual hard/soft currency (unless you sell them to a local hobby shop). That said, there’s actually a lot you can do with the Bowman Red Rookie Redemption program’s FanCash, including:
- Placing bets on Sportsbook: You can directly convert your FanCash into bonus bets on Fanatics Sportsbook. You’ll need a minimum of $0.01 FanCash to convert, and these bets will expire 90 days after conversion. Note that if you do end up turning a profit with your bet, this can then be converted into real cash with Fanatics’ platform.
- Apparel and Memorabilia: Fanatics’ storefront is a veritable treasure trove of everything a collector might want. Redeem your card at the right time, and you can use your FanCash to buy exclusive merch.
-
Buying More Cards: Fanatics Collect has continued to increase their momentum in the singles card space, offering a massive amount of auctions each week, including many Topps sports cards. While they haven’t reached the size of eBay quite yet, Fanatics Collect does offer collectors a great spot to trade their Red Rookies in to bid on other players they might PC.
- Live Breaks: Fanatics Live regularly hosts exciting live breaks for collectors everywhere. If you’re a registered member, you can use your Bowman Red Rookie Redemption cash to enter these breaks for a chance to win the hottest new cards on the market.
Which Cards Are Eligible?
According to MLB's rules, not every rookie is fully eligible to win Rookie of the Year. We suggest looking at the full checklist and terms and conditions before making a game plan.
That said, these are some of the more popular contenders you can target:
- Roki Sasaki - Los Angeles Dodgers
- Jacob Wilson - Oakland Athletics
- Rhett Lowder (moderate chance of ineligibility due to an injury) - Cincinnati Reds
- Adael Amador - Colorado Rockies
- Jackson Jobe - Detroit Tigers
- Dylan Crews - Washington Nationals
